History of the House
Our 1838 Shaker-style farmhouse was built by Thomas Mott, and was once part of a large dairy farm. Restored and renovated as lodging, the house maintains a rustic yet refined charm. You can still see the original post-and-beam construction, as well as the way it grew over the years in traditional New England fashion.
Our guests find cozy comfort in an English country-cottage style. Careful attention to detail is apparent throughout the house, with its wide pine floors, rag rugs, open beams, working fireplace, quilts and cotton linens. Decks and a free standing gazebo provide areas for outdoor living and/or breakfasting al fresco when desired. We offer four rooms with private baths. Three rooms have queen-size beds and the fourth room has twin beds.
There's also that special, sealed-off room. It was rumored to have been part of the Underground Railroad which, during the Civil War era, helped to conduct escaped slaves from the South on their way to Canada.
Innkeepers Susan and Bob Cogley will give you a full breakfast, travel information, books for browsing and peaceful corners for escape. Recreational activities are plentiful. Bring your fishing pole, golf clubs and bicycle.
A full breakfast is served each morning at an antique Tailors' Table. Guests will have a magnificent view of Lake Champlain while enjoying a specialty entree, fresh fruit, pastries, juice and coffee.
Specialty entrees include: cheese souffles, quiches, stuffed french toast, Bob's world-famous omelettes and more. Dietary requests are honored whenever possible. Please notify us in advance of such needs.
